STONE AND GREEN

07.12.2012

Stone, either in the form of a rock or treated stones, thanks to its natural aesthetic features, can be admirably embedded in any urban landscape design project.

With the stone, anyone can provide interesting solutions to issues related to the relief of the soil and the formation of the space, such as the connection of sloping surfaces, the demarcation of distinct spaces for specific uses, the construction of fences, the seating, the landscaping of the less attractive points etc. It can even add extra height to the garden, to climb climbing plants and to create shelters for birds and other animals. However, when stone in its various forms is considered as a basic material for the creation of a green space, due to its nature that makes the changes difficult, a careful study with the necessary plans must precede, prior to any intervention. It is also necessary to choose the right stone for each use, the suppliers according to the required quantities, as well as specialized placement technicians, who are advisable to participate in the planning phase to avoid problems in the next stages.  With regard to the choice of stone, it may be better to start from the local stone, if it exists, or from some stone that can be moved from a nearby area to reduce transport costs, provided of course that these stones cover the designer and owner requirements. Caution is also required in selecting the dimensions of the stone to ensure a proper proportion and harmony with the dimensions of the garden. In the case of rock formations, the large rocks, which are to be placed in such a way as to resemble natural protrusions that emerge through the ground, are especially elegant.
