DID YOU KNOW?

TILES SPLIT KAVALAS SLATE

Tiles Split Kavalas Slate are made of Kavalas shale extracted from the quarries located at the edges of the historic Paggaio mountain in northern Greece, in the Municipality of Kavala. This was the mountain where King Philip II owned gold mines that were used to financially support the military campaign of his son, Alexander the Great.

It is a hard rock, very resilient to time and frost, with a low degree of weathering and an anti-slip surface.

The four sides along its perimeter are broken using a press and the two larger sides are natural.

Our company has obtained a special CE marking for this product.

LAYING PAVING BLOCKS ON A CONCRETE SURFACE

1) We need a durable base of reinforced concrete on which the paving blocks will be laid.

2) They are bonded using cement mud and ensuring that the flatter and straighter surfaces are placed facing upwards, with the inclination we desire.

3) No gaps must be left during encasing.

4) Care must be taken to ensure that the mud does not stain the visible upper surface. If this occurs, the stain must be immediately cleaned using a sponge and water before it dries.

5) The width and depth of the joint depends on personal taste, but in general the width ranges between 1 and 2cm and the depth ranges between 0 and 1cm (a smaller depth results in a smoother surface).

6) Joints must be free of holes and cracks.

There are various installation schemes, e.g. parallel or diagonal lines, semi-circles etc. Other installation methods exist, however we believe that the one described is the simplest and most practical one.

Very thick paving blocks may be placed directly on the soil, without requiring concrete or cement mud for bonding. In this case, a different technique is required for the substrate and the installation.

In all cases, installation must be performed by experienced qualified technicians.
