KNOWLEDGE WITH NATURAL DECORATIVE STONES

27.09.2015

Decorative stones are characterized as all natural stones that are mined in geological formations quarries, which have the necessary aesthetic and technical characteristics for the production of finished products suitable for applications in building, urban design and architectural and decoration in general. Each ornamental rock, as a natural stone, consists of minerals that vary, as appropriate, and which have been agglomerated with the help of, typically, mineral bonding. The type of minerals contained in each rock, their quantitative composition in mineralogical composition, their structure, their color, their granulometry and their way and degree of aggregation, ultimately shape the particular characteristics of each material. That's why natural decorative rocks, as materials created by nature, do not have standard forms and features, as is the case with all industrial production materials. Instead, as natural materials, they each have their own personality, since the shape, coloring and in general the aesthetics, the qualities and the technical characteristics of each material depend not only on its mineralogical composition but also on the process of its formation , ie by very different factors, depending on the geological seasons and the circumstances in the various geographical areas. Natural decorative rocks, therefore, could also be described as materials with a designation of origin since it is rare, to practically impossible, to find two exactly the same materials coming from different geographic areas.   How to classify natural decorative rocks The plethora of natural decorative rock that exists today on the market is classified into various subcategories either with scientific criteria (geological-petrographic classification) or commercial.     SCIENTIFIC CLASSIFICATION In the scientific classification of the various rocks, taking into account the way they are formed, their petrographic analysis and their mineralogical composition. More specifically, decorative rocks, depending on how they are formed, are classified into the following three categories:       Sedimentary rocks. This category includes rocks formed from deposits of products of the earth (friable or soluble materials) of other rocks, which existed at other sites of the earth's crust.) The disintegration materials, created by the influence of various factors (water, temperature changes, wind, etc.) were removed from their original location - mainly by the rain water - and they were moved to sedimentation sites (geosygeneous), followed by diffusion, ie process of changes in a chiko sediment, during the geological ages, which eventually turned in solid rock.
