Slates

The Greek Slate

SLATES

Slate Kavalas is a Greek mineral that is excavated at the foot of Paggeo Mountain in Kavala. The term Slate is due to the characteristic ability to be torned easily into thin sheets, perpendicular to the direction of compression. The mining is done using digging machines in quarries at Paggaions Mountain of Kavala which in the first phase of natural stone quarried in large blocks. The large blocks are split by the workers with metal pins and sledge in sheets (slates).
